Currently...

This week each blogger will write about what is currently happening in their life. I am looking so forward to seeing what each law lady will post about! I don't get to see many of these girls on the regular because we are all up to our ears in the never ending sea of law school related tasks.

Reading

The Year of Living Biblically is the tale of A.J. Jacobs's quest to live one entire year while trying to follow the Bible's multitude of rules as literally as possible. As you can imagine, the author gets into some pretty interesting situations. I have really enjoyed reading this book, it is both funny and full of interesting Bible trivia.

Watching

How I Met Your Mother is in its sixth season but I just discovered it this year. It is a sitcom about a group of friends living in New York City. The group is comprised of a couple, two people that used to be a couple, and a playboy. The group dynamic makes for some funny situations. The show doesn't take itself too seriously and there have been some pretty wild story lines. I have found that an episode or two after a long day of serious law school business really helps me decompress.

I am absolutely obsessed with this Showtime original. The United States of Tara is funny, touching, and unpredictibile. It is a story of Tara, a suburban mom to two teenagers and suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder. She has a multitude of alternative personalities ranging from a 16-year-old party girl to a 50's housewife. Some of the personalities are shown in the above graphic. If you are looking for a new show to watch and have Showtime or Netflix I highly reccomend this one. WARNING: you will be addicted.

Eating

We made pulled pork barbecue last week for the first time and it was delicious. We followed this recipe with a few modifications (nixed the cloves and added some brown sugar.)

Yesterday's warm weather had me craving ice cream. This little treated helped satisfy my craving AND not feel guilty about having ice cream at 10pm! Seriously, 150 calories of heaven!

Dreaming about

If you have checked out my blog recently you will notice a new countdown on the sidebar. That's right, I will be in Mexico in 20 day's time! I constantly have the sun, sand, and surf on the brain!

Listening to

Both of these great songs have popped up on my Pandora lately.

Final Catwalk

I am the last law lady to share a fashion post--
although I am SURE this is not the last time we will talk about fashion.

I am not going to lie. This topic made me anxious. Anxious to the point that I was texting photos of myself to my best friend Danielle asking her which outfit was more "me." That is a question I should know the answer to--because I should know "me" best. But the reality is that I am in fashion infancy. I spent most of my life in t-shirts, jeans and tennis shoes. (side note: while shopping I said "oh Corey I like that bag" and he replied "of course you do; it is gray and boring."--so you see my fashion sense is not very well developed yet :)

Over the last few years, though, I have had a chance to revamp my wardrobe--mainly because I shed enough weight that the old clothes didn't fit. So I have started experimenting (with the encouragement of my friends--thank you Lauren and Danielle) and trying to figure out what it is that I like-both aesthetically and actually on my body.

So in my process of figuring out what I like to wear, I have come to realize that I like things SIMPLE.
My outfit today embodies that (I think)
I am wearing...

dark, skinny jeans by NY&Co (but purchased at Gabes)
Off white top (Forever21)
Black short-sleeved cardigan (Gabes)
Scarf (mom--but I think it is from Target)
Red, rosette flats (Target)
Earrings (Forever 21)
Close up of the accessories

Pretty much any day of the week (unless I am going to work) I will have on skinny jeans. I like the way they fit and look. I have traded in tennis shoes for flats or boots--heels are still only on the horizon of my fashion world. Cardigans have become an essential part of my wardrobe--they dress up the T-shirts I love and keep me warm in the ice box of a law school in which I live. I also love sweaters. I keep colors pretty tame, because versatility is very important. And SCARVES. I love them. I used to make fun of people who wore them, but I take it all back. It is my accessory of choice-especially since I hate necklaces. Scarves also serve double duty as BLANKETS...

Chelsy tried to capture me wrapping up in the blanket, but I am terrible at photo-shoots.

this is the funeral parlor room--by Friday, the places to take new photos was dwindling--
at least the carpet matches my shoes.

And really who doesn't want to pose next to a needlepoint of the law school logo?

So that is a glimpse of my fashion world. I am not fancy. But that is me.

Until next week when the law ladies tell you what they are doing "currently"....

Bows, Lace, and all things girly . . .

that is what constitutes my personal style!!!

My style ICON is none other than
Miss Blair Waldorf:

I love cream and blush colors.  I love lace and ruffles.
And I love love love BOWS!!
They are my signature item!!!
Almost every day, there is a bow somewhere in my look.

I also learned a lot in my earlier years from the fashion of
Cher Horowitz:

What I learned from her was:

Wear whatever you want and own it!!!!!!

I hate to hear people say:
"I love that headband, dress, etc. on you, but I could never pull it off!"
You can pull off anything as long as you have confidence in it and ROCK IT!!!!

Here is one example of a girly, feminine outfit that I love:

This cardigan is one of my favorite H&M finds ever!!!  I put it with an ivory cami with lace trim from Charlotte Russe, grey leggings from Target and a fluffy, frilly skirt from TJ Maxx.  The flats are ivory lace with black trim and a black bow from Forever 21.
(I am also wearing one of my favorite bow necklaces ever, but it is hard to see here)

TODAY

All of my jewelry is from Forever 21:

This cardigan, courtesy of H&M, is my favorite color ever.
Also love the color of these tights!
I got this little sundress this past weekend on a late night shopping trip to Target with one of my long-time BFFs!
I also got these new boots on the same shopping trip.

The back of this sundress is cut in a really fun way!

By some lovely artwork by a beautiful little girl

THIS is how we OWN law school!!!!

Hope you all like our week of fun outfits!!

Love,

Hello all! My turn to contribute to fashion week :)

Well- first of all- Yanni was jealous. He wanted to be a part of the fashion blog since he is, of course, the physical incarnation of fashion.
Yanni is sporting:
jeans
classic black pullover paired w/ a gray tee
file folder and coffee mug-( must have accessories!)
military style camo backpack
(also he seems to be doing a fun little jig:)

Ok, thanks Yanni :)
now on to
me!

*Dark skinny jeans
*Lush printed top
*Rubbish Open Stitch Cardigan
(okay, I did some early birthday shopping!):
all from Nordstrom

a side note pertaining to the skinny jeans: a great find at Nordstrom's- I can NEVER find jeans that fit. These are pure magic. They mold right to my body and I didn't have to go a size up (three cheers for magic!) I got them for a great price, but would have handed over a month's salary to add these to my wardrobe.

* Bandolino studded flats
*earrings that have been hanging around my jewelry box for decades
*long fake pearls- gift (Forever 21, I believe?) from my soon-to-be sister-in-law (lots of dashes--)
*hair:currently straightened. not usually the case, but I thought I'd look nice for you ladies:)
A slightly more detailed shot of my awesome flats.
and uneven jeans. that is really bothering me.

Wouldn't be a law library without an extensive three story collection of boring puke colored law books, every law students {favorite} accessory. not.
so many to choose from! Which goes best with my outfit??

So... while Jess and I were having a legitimate photoshoot, all these real law kids were STUDYING.
I can honestly say that I never expected to find people in the law library basement. at noon. in February.
Maybe around finals-- but come on people.
There are FAR better places to do your work than this poopy place.

*~*~*~*~*~*

Ok, now lets get real, little ladies. I got all gussied up so that you had something pseudo-interesting to look at today. In the words of Jess from Crafting Happiness,
"This ain't no runway... this ain't no fashion show...this is real life."
(she said it with a weird man voice- it was funny in person...)

So this, my friends, is me in real life:
outfit necessities:
Pink furry Northface- coolest/most used item I have ever purchased.
Fossil bird-print laptop bag- most valuable item anyone else has ever purchased for me.

So that's me.
Today's outfit is what I like to call, "Going somewhere?" attire.
no one would probably ever see me wearing this outfit without asking what important engagement I had planned for the day.
Don't get me wrong, I totally love looking cute! but my style tends to be very casual and comfy.
I do insist on looking put together. It really bothers me when people don't take the time to look presentable.
I love jeans.
I love yoga pants- a new development.
I love flip flops and summer-wear.
I love natural colors.
I love drapey things.
I love boots- also a new development.
I love earrings. post and dangling.
I love long hair- I chopped mine off last summer out of boredom: totally regret it.
I love make-up. particularly eyeliner and mascara.
I love casual.
I love painted nails- though I rarely do it.

hope you enjoyed this little peek into my wardrobe!
More fashion to come tomorrow from the ever-stylin' Ambria :)

Legalwear Day 2

At the law school you can usually find me in a pair of jeans and a sweater or cardigan. The law school is always cold so the only thing that really changes about my school day outfits are the shoes. Today I opted for some grey heels.

The above photo was taken at the exact moment my Criminal Procedure walked out of our classroom and asked me what I was doing. I smartly replied "taking a picture." HA! She suggested photo-shopping myself into the Class of 1931's composite, I opted to just stick with the above awkward photo.

Me, my cute ensemble, and one of the two large classrooms in our law school.

The Details:

Rosettes on my tank.

{Grey} heels & skinny jeans--one of my favorite combos!

Silver jewelery.

Books--every law student's favorite accessory ;)

What I am wearing:
Baby pink cardigan: Forever21
White rosette tank: Forever21
Grey patent leather skinny belt: Forever21
Jeans: Gap's "Always Skinny" in ankle length
Grey heels: Tahari
Earrings: Silpada
Stackable rings: Silpada
Opal ring: Jewelery Boutique in Guanajuato, Mexico

Happy Tuesday!!

What Are You Wearing Today- Law School Edition

Let's get real, law school is hardly just about the books.

How you can usually find me, between classes:

The fun part about coming into school each day is finding out- what are all of my cute friends wearing?

This week, each of us ladies will show you a peek into our school style.

Today is all about COLOR for me.
I am a huge fan of color, it doesn't take knowing me too long to figure that out.

I felt like I had hit a little winter slump for while. With the freezing cold temps and all of the snow we get in the mountains of West Virginia, I was feeling drab and uninspired.
I was falling into a rut of "safe" and "comfy", resorting to leggings with long tanks over, and boots almost every single day.
It was getting old.
The last few days of sunlight, coupled with a lovely little weekend away, and I feel like I'm BACK!

I'm usually not sure what I am  going to wear each day until I set foot into my walk-in closet. And yes, it is rapidly becoming stuffed to the brim- I propose a fashion swap with the other law ladies!
Anyways, today I noticed it was rainy and drab out, but not too cold.
I knew I needed some color in my life, to start out my week on a happy note.

*I started with yellow tights - I am loving yellow this winter!
I think these are from a random stop into Gap.

*I then added a simple purple dress from Forever 21, I really like the cut and fit of it.

*The shoes are brown low heels from Target.
I got these a year or so ago, and simply love the way they look with vintage style dresses and skirts.
I liked them so much that I picked up a pair in blue too!

*The cardigan I put over top is from Forever 21.
I lovelovelove cherries.  They have a special place in my heart, and are even the first tattoos I ever got.

*The scarf is a vintage find from Value Village.
I am such a scarf girl. They can really add an extra bit of cuteness to any outfit.

*I also added a scarf around my purse. This is another vintage find, from this weekend, antiquing in Flatwoods.

*For accessories, I piled my wavy locks into a bun. When it's rainy out, there really is no controlling my jungle woman hair :)

And I was excited to get to wear my new charm bracelet, which I found antiquing with my man this weekend.

Overall, I would describe my style as eclectic and colorful, with pops vintage.
I love mixing adorable vintage finds, such as dresses and scarfs, with bargain pieces from Forever 21, Target and H&M. I get a kick out of seeing how fun I can make dressing, and often times that includes searching many different places for the cutest look.
Also, I am not a fan of buying something simply for the brand name. Just because you spend a lot for something does not make it any better!
I do splurge on certain staples, such as Hunter Boots, which I have loved this winter, Nike Shox running shoes, dresses from French Connection for events, etc...
Other than that, I am happy to mix and match pieces and add in chunky and funky accessories for a look all my own.
I almost never wear pants, except for leggings, which I love.
I lean towards colorful or patterned tights, ladylike cut dresses and high waisted skirts, and tons of scarfs and various accessories.
I collect vintage charm bracelets, Essie and Opi nailpolish, and cute vintage pins.

I hope you enjoyed a look at a day of my law school fashion.
Stay tuned this week for each of the Law Ladies, and their outfits and personal style details!
This is going to be so much fun :)

School Work.

Sometimes it's annoying, and it sure can get in the way of fun times.

BUT, all-in-all, you realize when going to law school that you will be dealing with it. A LOT of it.

I enjoy making a cute little date out of school work.

Here are some methods of "fun studying" that I enjoy.

- Taking reading to coffee shops and sipping coffee while doing it

A good friend helps for this method too :)
In Morgantown, I suggest Blue Moose for a downtown spot,
Zen Clay for a close to the law school spot,
and Barnes and Noble for a place to take little breaks to read some magazines

AND now we even have a Starbucks in the school lobby!

-Hanging out at the library with friends while studying for long hours

-And cuddling up on the couch with my little puppy

In life, there are always going to be challenges, hard work to be done, and nagging tasks to deal with.
It is my philosophy that if you can find FUN WAYS to deal with them, you are helping yourself to live the BEST, most fulfilled life possible.

Not to mention, little rewards are always enjoyed more after a hard day's work! :)
